ABOUT DREAM STADIUMS
When my father took me to my first baseball game many years ago, I was immediately and
forever hooked--not only with the game, but with the stadiums themselves. I was instantly
enthralled with everything--the colorful seats, the towering scoreboards, all the wonderful
smells, sights and sounds. I was also mesmerized at the engineering of the stadiums--the
way the seating decks, filled with people, were hovering in the air above the decks below,
with no seeming means of support. "How'd they do that?!", I wondered. Even today,
knowing how cantilever engineering works, I still get a big kick out of seeing it in action.
Almost immediately after discovering my baseball passion I began drawing and designing
stadiums. I continued this design hobby throughout my teens, drawing literally hundreds of
different designs--from the practical to the utterly ridiculous. At the age of 23, after years
of merely drawing my ideas, I decided to try and build a small scale section of a seating
deck. The attempt was crude, but I was thrilled, and soon after, I attempted an entire scale
model stadium out of scrap cardboard. Again, it was a bit rough around the edges, but I
was hooked. Over the next two years, I built five more cardboard ballparks and one
hockey arena. (cont.)
